Perfect. September 3, 2010 bekki (NC) I love the format of this book. I'm strong in mathematics, but like most people there are little things I've lost here and there. A great example is square roots; I remembered all parts of working with square roots with the exception of addition. With the diagnostic test at the beginning of each section I was able to perfectly zero in on what I needed to quickly review and not bother with the rest. The tests also serve just as a great review/practice to build confidence and speed, which are both important to succeeding on this type of test.
I like the layout and organization of this far better than anything else I've used. Most review books jump around topics and key information is spread out and difficult to find, whereas this one has sections devoted to exactly one topic (polygons, triangles, etc.) I still think I would recommend using this in conjunction with a GRE specific book. The CliffsNotes is the (very important) basic foundation of knowledge and techniques, while a test-specific book helps to demonstrate exactly how the test will be formatted and build familiarity. However, if you can only get one review book (oh, the joys of being a poor college student) I would put my money on this one.
Math Made Easy for the Math Ignorant August 22, 2010 Shelly L. Duffer (Virginia) After several years, I have decided to take the GRE, in order to apply to graduate school. The only problem is the content on the test. English? No problem. Vocab? Got it. Math? Math? Really? Math? I am decidedly toast.
Or would be, were it not for Cliffsnote Math Review for Standardized Tests. If you or someone you know is preparing for any standardized test, I highly recommend this volume on math. When this math review arrived on my doorstep from Amazon, I placed it on my dresser and tried unsuccessfully to ignore it.
But, alas, I picked it up one day and tied my seat to the chair to do an hour's worth of review. I opened it with much fear, because I was sure that I would not understand and that I would fail. My fears, though, were unrealized. From page one, the explanations were simple and easy to understand. The material seems to move at just the right pace. Not so fast that I get lost and fail to understand, but also not too slow. Going to slow I think would be just as frustrating.
So, if you are like me and are struggling with what are proper fractions and what are improper fractions, this book is for you. And, if you think you have a pretty good grasp on mathematics and just a review, this book would work for you also.
Bravo Cliffsnotes, you may have saved my sanity!
MIRACLE BOOK August 21, 2010 Catherine I have every GRE study guide imaginable but this book is all I needed. It's quick, precise, gets to the point and...get this...I am improving my math skills immensely...If you find all the GRE book "explanations" more confusing than helpful, BUY THIS BOOK!
great review book August 8, 2010 Sonya Excellent study guide. All topics covered thoroughly. The only downfall is that pre-calculus and above is not covered.
Awesome Math Review! July 2, 2010 kitkatthecat This book would be helpful to anyone studying to take a the math portion of a standardized exam. I'm studying to take the GRE in a couple months. I'm a chemistry major and have taken math up to vector calculus and linear algebra, but I forgot simple things I learned in geometry and algebra. In each chapter of the book, you first take a diagnostic test to see your areas of weakness, then you review those areas and take another test at the end. I'm not all the way done studying with this book, but it is very clear and organized. The explanations are written in a simple, understandable way. Also, this book is very thorough. It is helpful if you don't know any math at all or if you just need a good review of essential skills!
